Hauwa Kaka Usman

Hauwa Kaka Usman is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), legal practitioner, arbitrator, mediator, and dispute resolution professional with extensive experience in legal practice, access to justice, and alternative dispute resolution. She currently serves as the Registrar-General of the Nigerian Chamber of Commerce Dispute Resolution Centre (NCC-DRC) and General Counsel of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), where she contributes to the development and promotion of arbitration, mediation, and other ADR mechanisms for businesses and institutions. Prior to her current roles, Hauwa served with the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, rising to the position of Chief Legal Aid Officer. During her public service career, she represented indigent persons in civil and criminal matters, promoted access to justice initiatives, and gained significant experience in dispute resolution, advocacy, and community legal services. Her professional interests include commercial arbitration, mediation, dispute avoidance, institutional ADR development, governance, and Islamic finance dispute resolution. She is currently pursuing doctoral research on arbitration in resolving Islamic finance disputes in Nigeria. Hauwa actively participates in local, regional, and international ADR initiatives and is committed to advancing the use of arbitration and mediation as effective tools for resolving commercial and cross-border disputes.
