Gehad Al Masry
Gehad Al Masry is a counsel in AMERELLER, Cairo Office. He specializes in dispute resolution, with a strong focus on commercial and civil litigation, white-collar defense, and investigations. Prior to joining private practice, Gehad dedicated 12 years to the Egyptian Ministry of Justice, where he held key judicial and prosecutorial roles, demonstrating deep expertise in justice sector governance, legal reform, and the rule of law.
As a judge at the Cairo Economic Court and also as a member of the court’s mediation panel, he played a key role in resolving business disputes, successfully mediating 114 cases and achieving amicable settlements in 35 cases in 2023.
From 2012 to 2021, Gehad served as a District Attorney in the Egyptian Public Prosecution, handling major criminal cases, national security matters, and high-profile investigations. He also spent three years specializing in family and matrimonial department. His expertise was complemented by his engagement with stakeholders in the Egyptian justice system. Recognizing his outstanding contributions, the Minister of Justice named him the Best Senior District Attorney in Egypt in 2021.
Beyond his judicial and prosecutorial career, Gehad has been actively involved in international legal initiatives. He has collaborated with the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative in Cairo and secured letters of recommendation from Dr. Stephen Rosenbaum (Berkeley University) and Jeff Gold (South Texas College of Law). He was awarded a scholarship by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to attend an international conference in Tunisia. Additionally, he has participated in specialized programs organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). In 2023, Gehad received a personal invitation from the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) to attend the Asia-Pacific Judicial Summit in Hong Kong. Most recently, in December 2024, he was awarded a scholarship by the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) to attend the Public Policy Excellence Program in Egypt.
Academically, Gehad graduated among the top students from Cairo University’s Faculty of Law (English Department). He holds a master’s degree in international Private Law and is currently earning a PhD in International Law, with his dissertation defense scheduled for February 26, 2025. His research was recognized for its academic significance and selected for presentation at the Doctoral Seminar of the Siracusa International Institute in Italy in March 2025.
In addition to his legal education, Gehad has successfully completed dual master’s degrees in Euro-Mediterranean Studies and Islamic Banking, Finance, and Commercial Transactions. He also holds a Diploma in Political Science from the Faculty of African Studies. His scholarly contributions include two co-authored publications in Lexology’s 2024 editions: In-Depth: Dispute Resolution (Edition 16) and In-Depth: Cartels and Leniency (Edition 12).
