David Katona

David has conducted over 300 commercial and civil mediations with high resolution rate, across a large variety of matters and culturally diverse clientele. He is a Nationally Accredited  Mediator, is a declared Statutory Mediator under various Victorian Government departments, and is an Australian Lawyer admitted in Victoria.

Prior to the law, David founded and directed businesses in multiple sectors, and performed as business consultant to several boards of directors including whole project architecture, policy drafting and implementation, execution and sale. Sectors included construction, hospitality, retail, industrial design and manufacture.

David participates in a number of international mediation and ADR initiatives, including regular teaching, coaching and judging student competitions. He is particularly interested in mentoring and applying his entrepreneurial skills to provide students and junior mediators with ways to bridge the gap between their mediation study and landing their first engagements. He is actively collaborating with various organisations and universities to achieve this aim.

David is first-generation to the law, and due to a unique, wide and varied background of experiences, can quickly and effectively build trust and rapport with parties, and achieve pragmatic and efficient resolutions, with or without translators. He has particular expertise in the field of building and construction. He resides in the countryside of Victoria, Australia with his family, and is available for online mediations and conciliations, and in-person abroad.
