Stephen Hibbert

Stephen Hibbert is an experienced international arbitrator with over 40 years of practice acting as counsel, solicitor advocate, and tribunal member in arbitrations across Australia, Asia, and the Middle East.

Since 2008, as a resident of the Middle East, he has acted as both counsel and tribunal member in arbitrations seated in Oman, the UAE, and Qatar, with appointments under the rules of leading arbitral institutions including the LCIA, ICC, DIAC, and QICCA.

In the Australia–Asia region, between 1993 and 2007, he was appointed as tribunal member in more than 20 domestic and international arbitrations, in addition to regularly appearing as counsel.

In the Middle East, between 2008 and 2024, Stephen Hibbert has been appointed as tribunal member in over 50 arbitrations, including 27 domestic cases, with the remainder being regional and international disputes. Between 2022 and 2025, he has served as chairman in six arbitrations, including a very high-value ICC arbitration involving international parties and a highly sensitive strategic government project in the UAE.
