Josep is an internationally recognised barrister, mediator, and former Spanish judge practising out of London across a wide spectrum of commercial and investment disputes. His practice integrates over two decades of experience in civil and common law systems, enabling him to navigate highly complex disputes with authority and cultural sensitivity.

As a registered mediator before the Spanish Ministry of Justice, Josep has intervened in commercial mediations involving joint ventures, corporate governance, shareholder disagreements, and international contractual disputes. He is regarded for his ability to establish trust quickly, create structured negotiation frameworks, and propose pragmatic solutions that preserve long-term commercial relationships. Beyond his mediation practice, he spent nearly ten years teaching Commercial international Mediation at the University of Barcelona, where he developed and delivered courses on negotiation strategy, comparative mediation models, and the challenges of cross-border settlement.

In arbitration, Josep represents states, state-owned entities, and multinational corporations under leading institutional rules including ICSID, ICC, LCIA, SIAC, DIAC, and UNCITRAL. He has acted in disputes arising from infrastructure projects, energy developments, and high-value investment treaty claims. His expertise extends to sovereign immunity, jurisdictional objections, and the enforcement of arbitral awards across multiple jurisdictions. His dual capacity as both a barrister in England & Wales and Spanish abogado allows him to offer a rare combination of strategic insight and judicial perspective in the conduct of international disputes.

Josep’s sectoral expertise spans energy, infrastructure, construction, finance, insurance, technology, and international trade. His ability to operate fluently in both English and Spanish, coupled with his command of French and Catalan, ensures effective communication in multi-jurisdictional proceedings and mediations. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators, and a member of several leading arbitration institutions, reflecting his active role in the global dispute resolution community.
