Dr. Marian Kalda
Counselor Dr. Marian Kaldas is a prominent figure in legal leadership and institutional impact. She serves as the first Executive Officer of the Egyptian Center for Arbitration and Settlement of Non-Banking Financial Disputes (ECAS), the first center of its kind established by presidential decree. Dr. Kaldas was recently appointed by Presidential Decree as a member of the new board of the National Council for Women in Egypt, where she co-chairs the Economic and Legislative Committee, an appointment that reflects the high level of confidence in her legal expertise and societal role.
Dr. Kaldas has a distinguished and extensive professional record in the legal field, having held leadership positions within both the Administrative Prosecution Authority and the Ministry of Justice. At the Ministry of Justice, she served as Counselor at the General Department of Arbitration and International Disputes—a key appointment that reflects her expertise in complex legal matters. Additionally, she is registered as an accredited arbitrator at the Ministry of Justice.
As a pioneer in both academia and her profession, Dr. Kaldas is the first Egyptian woman featured on the official website of the University of Montreal in Canada for her distinguished career. She also served as Editor-in-Chief of the law journal published by the university’s Faculty of Law.
She launched Egypt’s inaugural Family Business Conference to promote effective governance and explore funding opportunities for family-owned enterprises. This
landmark event led to the listing of several family-owned companies on the Egyptian Stock Exchange. Additionally, she developed a comprehensive training program to strengthen governance, financing strategies, growth potential, and sustainable resilience within these businesses.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Kaldas is a dedicated advocate for mentoring the next generation of legal professionals. She founded the “Young ECAS” initiative, designed to prepare and qualify emerging lawyers, arbitrators, and business graduates. This program equips participants to establish robust careers in law and business, thereby cementing her status as a leading figure in shaping the future of the legal profession in Egypt.
Dr. Kaldas exemplifies inclusive female leadership, having launched Egypt’s first initiative to promote equal representation of women in arbitration—the "Equal Representation in Arbitration" (ERA) Pledge. This initiative sought to ensure the inclusion of women at all levels of legal practice and encourages institutions to uphold the principles of diversity and equality.
In May 2025, she led the launch of the first – ever Egypt Arbitration Day (EGYAD), held under the theme “Where Business Meets Solution,” which brought together the legal and business sectors for the first time and positioned Egypt as a central hub for regional and international arbitration. Her leadership extends to academia and public speaking, Dr. Kaldas is a lecturer at the National Anti-Corruption Academy (NACA) in Egypt, the Egyptian Institute of Directors (EIOD), and the Financial Services Institute (FSI) affiliated with the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA). In addition, Dr. Kaldas is a prominent keynote speaker at national and international forums.
Among her many accolades, Dr. Kaldas was named the “Most Influential Woman in the Legal Field in the Middle East” for 2023 by The Law Magazine. In 2024, under her leadership, ECAS received the “Healthiest Work Environment of the Year” award, reflecting her strong commitment to employee well-being, inclusion, and professional development. In 2025, she was recognized with the “Global Women Power Leader” award by White Page International. Additionally, she has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Egypt for 2025 by Amwal Al Ghad Economic Magazine, under the auspices of the Prime Minister, H.E. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and most recently, she was granted “Arbitrator/ADR Practitioner of the Year 2025" award from the African Arbitration Association.
Dr. Kaldas holds distinguished academic credentials spanning both law and business. She earned a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Montreal in Canada with the highest distinction “Exceptional”, a Master's degree in Law from Indiana University, a Bachelor's degree in Law from Cairo University and a Bachelor's degree in business administration from the American University in Cairo.
